Bariatric Surgery and Medical Weight Management in South Florida

Choosing to undergo weight loss surgery or begin a medical weight management program is not an overnight decision. Most of our patients have spent years trying to lose weight or have been unsuccessful in sustaining weight loss. Moreover, it’s not uncommon for our patients to struggle with obesity-related chronic illnesses and the high cost of medication. Obesity is a complex metabolic illness, and the complications of obesity go beyond physical problems. Many of our patients have experienced weight bias and stigmas at school, at the workplace, in their relationships, in their healthcare services, and in the media.

Quick-fix diets and “the biggest loser mentality” are unhealthy approaches to losing weight. Moreover, they end up perpetuating cliches, negative stigmas, and body hate. As medical weight loss professionals, we are committed to helping patients live lives of wellness and health.

Weight loss surgery, commonly called bariatric surgery, is a medical option for men and women struggling with the disease of obesity. There are many procedures, all of which help patients lose weight by changing the digestive system to limit the amount of food they can ingest. Most surgeries are done laparoscopically, at our cutting-edge weight loss clinic near Miami, as well as are minimally invasive. Options include:

  • The Gastric Sleeve or Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Gastric Bypass Surgery (Roux-en-Y)
  • Lap-Band® (or gastric band)
  • Intragastric Balloon

These bariatric surgeries give patients a headstart to health and back on track to wellness, reducing their risks of obesity-related diseases, oftentimes reversing Type II Diabetes and other chronic illnesses. This allows our patients to live their best, healthiest lives. Weight loss surgery is only the beginning  – lifestyle modifications, meaningful changes in eating behaviors, diet, and exercise habits, are critical to sustaining a healthy weight over time.

Before surgery, all patients meet with a team of South Florida medical weight loss professionals – a psychologist, surgeon, bariatric dietitian nutritionist, and support staff. This is to ensure any weight loss procedure is right for you.

Meet the Team

Florida Weight Loss Clinic & Medical Weight Management

We have worked with thousands of patients since 2010, with one goal: to improve their health status through medical weight loss procedures and management.

Clinically-proven, and medically supervised, our medical weight management program is individualized for each patient, beginning with a series of tests and labs. We will:

  • Review your current medication.
  • Identify, through bloodwork, any hormone or vitamin imbalances.
  • Measure your metabolism through indirect carlorimetry testing.
  • Assess heart health with an electrocardiogram.

Based on your lab results, our interdisciplinary team of weight loss professionals – board certified doctors, medical assistants, nurse practitioners, registered dietitian nutritionists, psychologists – will work with you to create an individualized medical weight management plan. This will include:

  • Identifying triggers  – to begin behavioral troubleshooting.
  • Providing you with expert nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian nutritionist, to modify your current diet. You will not go hungry! Moderation and modification are key.
  • Providing you with expert exercise and sleep hygiene counseling.
  • Prescribing oral or injectable FDA-approved prescription weight loss medications, as determined by your physician.
  • Implementing supplement protocol, depending on your individual metabolic needs.
  • Committing to be long-term partners with you to give you the ongoing support you need to achieve and maintain weight loss success.
