100% non-surgical weight loss procedure. Experience fewer side effects. Feel fuller faster. Curb cravings. Learn portion control. Reach a healthy weight. Reduce the risk of obesity-related illnesses and chronic conditions. Live your healthiest, best life.
At our South Florida weight loss clinic, we offer this endoscopic, non-surgical weight loss procedure for qualifying patients. Approved by the FDA in 2015, this is the most minimally invasive medical weight loss procedure on the market.
During the procedure, a deflated gastric balloon is inserted with a catheter in your mouth, down your esophagus, and into your stomach. The balloon is then inflated with a sterile saline solution, to about the size of a grapefruit. You will be sedated for the procedure.
The gastric balloon doesn’t require hospitalization and takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, from start to finish. Most patients go home after a few hours in the recovery room.
The balloon will remain in your stomach for six months, while you work on developing healthier eating behaviors, portion control, and a healthy diet plan, ideally with a bariatric registered dietitian nutritionist. Likewise, we recommend working on increasing movement and exercise in your life, and making sustainable lifestyle changes.
After six months, the balloon is removed, just as it was inserted, in an outpatient endoscopic procedure that takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Typically, patients lose 30% to 50% of their excess weight within those first six months.
Intragastric balloons are not often covered by insurance in the United States. Check with your health insurance provider and discuss the cost of the intragastric balloon placement with us to help determine if this is the right medical weight loss treatment for you.
As with all medical weight loss procedures, the efficacy of the procedure and long-term success depend on lifestyle and diet changes.
